About Us

History

The Pioneer Medical Centre began in 1994 when Dr Peter Ford relocated his practice from Ridgehaven to Tea Tree Gully.  Pioneer Medical Centre has benefited from the services of many GPs since its establishment, namely Dr Peter Joseph, Dr Christopher Elieff, Dr Paul Davidson as well as other GPs and registrars.  Dr Ford retired in 2019.  Drs Bun Yiv, Bryan Robertson, Penny Need and Stella Prescott joined Pioneer as GP registrars and, after Fellowship, as independent practitioners. The ownership and management of Pioneer Medical was transferred to Drs Yiv, Robertson, Need and Prescott in 2014.

Pioneer Medical Centre is proud to be an accredited training practice for Registrars. A Registrar is a fully qualified medical doctor, undertaking advanced training to specialise in General Practice.

As part of gaining their experience in general practice, Registrars need to be exposed to many different environments. This means they move on to a new rotation generally every 6-12 months. Whilst this is sad and can be frustrating for patients, it is also exciting and rewarding to know that you have been a part of their training and shaping them to be the best GP they can be.

Pioneer Medical Centre is an AGPAL Accredited Practice.
Accreditation means that our Practice meets the strict standards set by the RACGP (Royal College of General Practitioners), acknowledging our commitment to safe, high quality health care. Our Practice undergoes accreditation every 3 years.

Teaching

This practice participates in medical student training. The receptionist will, if possible, advise you that a third person will be present at your consult when booking your appointment, then at attendance at reception and again on entering consult rooms.

Please advise us if you are not comfortable with the presence of a third party.

Occasionally the practice participates in clinical audits using de identified information. If you have concerns about this, please talk to a staff member.
